David Butterfield Funeral Directors are honoured to be nominated for an award category at The Butterfly awards and received the following email:
Dear Shawn,
You have been nominated in the following category: Bereavement Worker
You have been nominated for the following reasons-
" From start to finish, Shawn and his team guided us carefully and gently through the whole process of organising and planning our son's funeral.
Our son went for post mortem and we had no real idea where he was or when he'd be back. It was all such a blur. Shawn took all our anxiety away, he knew who to get in touch with and as soon as our son arrived back into the hospital he sent a car with two people- one to drive and one to hold our baby and cuddle him all the way back to his Chapel of Rest.
Shawn and his wife Claire were amazing. Claire looked after our son for me , she cuddled him, wrapped him up warm, talked to him and made sure she treated him as I would have. Every night, before they left, they made sure he was ok. I can't express or put into words how comforting this was for us.
When I went to visit at the Chapel of Rest, Claire dressed him for me, she was often giving him a cuddle. She made sure I had as much time as I wanted, gave me hugs and held my hand all the time.
They arranged the vicar to come for a blessing. Nothing was too much trouble.
Shawn took over the funeral planning. He made suggestions but made it clear the final decisions were ours and he supported us every step of the way. We ended up with a beautiful service including singing and white doves.
Shawn gently suggested that our son spent the night at home the day before the funeral. again he arranged a cuddle cot and brought him to me. At first I wasn't sure but we discussed it and it was 100% the best thing I did. It gave me precious extra time and it's the one thing I'll be forever thankful of.
Shawn helped me place our son in the coffin and wrap him up warm but when it got too much, he gave me a much needed hug and took over.
Butterfields went over and above. They were amazing and made it traumatic time bearable. I'll be grateful to them forever"
